What happened: Jordon Davison called Jay Johnson “straight to the point” as Johnson takes over Oregon’s play calls. Dan Lanning assigned him the role after dismissing offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer following the Ducks’ third loss of 2026.

Why it matters: The Ducks are 4-3 with five games left. Davison cited Johnson’s work with Doak Walker Award winner Kenneth Walker III at Michigan State and said Oregon must finish its blocks to create bigger plays.

By the numbers: Davison scored his seventh rushing touchdown of 2026 on Oregon’s opening drive against Illinois and finished with 92 rushing yards. Oregon scored only three more points in a 21-10 loss.

What to watch: Johnson’s first game calling plays is Saturday at home.
