What happened: Deshaun Watson was placed in the NFL concussion protocol on Wednesday. The designation pauses the quarterback's on-field activity as the team enters midseason preparations.

Why it matters: Any missed time tests depth under coordinator Todd Monken with Cleveland navigating the second half of the 2026 regular season. Deshaun Watson has handled every start under center this year, making his availability pivotal to maintaining offensive stability.

What to watch: Watson must complete the NFL's five-phase clearance protocol before resuming full football activities. Cleveland will update his practice participation status ahead of Sunday.
