What happened: The Cleveland Browns placed starting quarterback Deshaun Watson in the NFL's concussion protocol. Shedeur Sanders is in line to make his first start of the season in Watson's place.

Why it matters: Sanders was selected by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Colorado. A starting nod gives the second-year passer his first extended regular-season opportunity to direct the offense. Cleveland enters the week managing depth adjustments under center ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

By the numbers: Watson has completed 163 of 249 passes for 1,806 yards with 7 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 2026 through 8 games. Sanders has completed 3 of 3 passes for 2 yards in 2026 through 2 games.

What to watch: Watson's progression through concussion testing will dictate his availability for upcoming game action. Sanders is slated to handle first-team practice reps until Watson is cleared.
