He posted a 157.9 rating in Thursday's finale.

What happened: Cleveland must trim its roster to 53 players by 6 p.m. Sunday. Gabriel strengthened his case for a roster spot with three touchdown passes in the preseason finale.

Why it matters: His performance gives the Browns leverage as they sort out the bottom of their quarterback depth chart. A deal would create a roster spot while returning compensation before the regular season.

By the numbers: Gabriel completed 12 of 15 passes for 186 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the finale, producing a 157.9 passer rating.

What to watch: Watch for a trade or a spot on Cleveland's initial 53-man roster by Sunday evening.
