What happened: The Los Angeles Dodgers are evaluating a trade package centered on right-hander Emmet Sheehan to acquire Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. Detroit is reportedly seeking a controllable starting pitcher alongside quality prospects ahead of the August 3 deadline.

Why it matters: Los Angeles faces rotation uncertainty following a knee injury to Shohei Ohtani, prompting a potential push for pitching depth despite Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow nearing returns. Sheehan is under team control until 2030, aligning with Detroit's requirements for parting with their ace.

What to watch: The front office will navigate Ohtani's health timeline while finalizing their approach to the starting pitching market.
