What happened: Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said surgery is not on the table for Shohei Ohtani. Friedman added he fully expects Ohtani to continue as a two-way player and pitch next season.

Why it matters: The clarity locks in Los Angeles' two-way roster design around Shohei Ohtani heading into the offseason. It removes an extended pitching rehab from the club's winter planning.

What to watch: Next detail will be Ohtani's offseason throwing schedule once Los Angeles finishes the postseason.
