What happened: Luka Dončić is averaging 40.1 points per game through his first nine games of the 2026-27 season, joining Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to maintain a 40-point scoring average over that opening span. Doncic reached 361 total points across the nine-game stretch to secure the milestone.

Why it matters: The scoring pace places Dončić alongside Chamberlain's historic early-season scoring outputs in league annals. The sustained production solidifies his position atop the league's early scoring leaderboard for the 2026-27 campaign.

What to watch: Doncic looks to maintain his scoring clip as the 2026-27 regular season schedule continues.
