What happened: With the 2-4 Indianapolis Colts firing general manager Chris Ballard ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline, running back Jonathan Taylor and All-Pro left guard Quenton Nelson have surfaced as potential trade targets alongside Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, per Yahoo NFL. Denver enters the deadline window at 4-2 following a 17-14 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, though its backfield has dealt with struggles from J.K. Dobbins, whom the Broncos monitored after an August soft-tissue injury, an ankle injury that leaves Jonah Coleman questionable on injured reserve designated to return, and limited second-year carries for RJ Harvey. Even with those backfield needs, Indianapolis is seeking to recoup the first-round pick it sent to the New York Jets for cornerback Sauce Gardner, pricing Denver out of taking on Taylor's multi-year contract extension.

Why it matters: Having parted with four first-round picks across three of the past five years in trades for Jaylen Waddle, head coach Sean Payton, and Russell Wilson, the fifth-seeded Broncos have long-term roster needs that outweigh expensive short-term rentals. Acquiring Nelson to upgrade over Ben Powers would require both premium draft compensation and a top-of-market extension in the final year of his deal for a Denver offensive line that already ranks among the NFL's highest-paid units. A move for LaPorta carries similar hurdles, as the 3-2 Lions hold the seventh seed in the NFC playoff picture while the tight end navigates nagging injuries and the final season of his rookie contract before learning Payton's scheme with quarterback Bo Nix.

By the numbers: Denver sits at 4-2 (No. 5 seed, two-game winning streak) after defeating Seattle 17-14 on Oct. 15, while Detroit stands at 3-2 (No. 7 seed) following a 45-21 win at Arizona and Indianapolis sits at 2-4 (No. 12 seed, two-game losing streak) after a 26-20 loss to Tennessee.

What to watch: Denver visits Arizona on Sunday with Coleman listed as questionable in his ankle injury return window. The Broncos and Colts have until the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline to finalize any midseason roster moves.
