What happened: Kevin Durant recorded 30 points, six rebounds, and three assists in Houston's 2026-27 season-opening victory. Jabari Smith Jr. matched that 30-point mark on 11-of-18 shooting while adding four 3-pointers, five rebounds, and two steals. Alperen Sengun distributed five assists to go with his double-double.

Why it matters: The opening-night scoring outburst pairs Kevin Durant entering his second Houston season alongside Fred VanVleet with efficient production from the team's young frontcourt core. VanVleet directed the offense with 11 assists and zero turnovers, while Amen Thompson added a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. Durant holds a player option for the 2027-28 campaign as Houston begins the regular season.
