What happened: Cowan timed his pass to connect with Matthews for a Saturday regular-season tally, per Joshua Kloke.

Why it matters: The early production backs the decision to hold Cowan out of recent defense trade talks after a strong camp. Matthews continues to add to his total after setting the NHL mark for goals through 700 career games earlier in the week.

By the numbers: Easton Cowan: 7 points in 6 games during the 2026-27 regular season. Auston Matthews: set the NHL record for goals through 700 career games on Tuesday.

What to watch: Both players continue their early 2026-27 regular-season slate as Cowan pushes for sustained top-six usage.
