What happened: Former Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza entered Sunday's contest for a single possession. The rookie took his first professional snaps after spending the start of the season on the sideline.

Why it matters: The appearance provided a brief look at the reigning national champion in a live regular-season setting. Evaluators finally saw him operate a professional offense after a highly publicized wait for playing time.

What to watch: Attention now turns to whether this limited action leads to a promotion to a larger role.
