What happened: A former New York Yankees player signed with a division rival during the 2026 MLB postseason. The agreement places veteran depth on a competitor's roster while October play continues.

Why it matters: Intr-division movement raises the stakes for New York entering a busy winter. The Yankees carry 10 major-league free agents into the offseason, making rival roster adds part of the winter math.

What to watch: Contract terms and offseason roster plans will clarify the fit in the coming weeks.
