What happened: Brendan Gallagher said Vancouver opened camp with a more determined, motivated feel as the Canucks began day 1 work Friday. Gallagher, Jamie Oleksiak, Kevin Lankinen and Jake Debrusk all spoke after the opening session.

Why it matters: The comments set an early tone for a club opening preseason work after a summer of roster change, including Gallagher's move to Vancouver. Camp is where those additions start sorting fit, roles and leadership before exhibition games and the Oct. 1 home opener.

What to watch: Vancouver continues camp in Penticton before returning to Rogers Arena for its Oct. 1 home opener against Edmonton.
