What happened: Luis Garcia Jr. homered to put the Yankees ahead early in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series. Game 1 ended 9-0 in New York's favor.

Why it matters: Early runs carry extra weight in a best-of-three with no room for a reset. A second straight win advances New York without a winner-take-all Game 3.

By the numbers: Garcia Jr. reached 30 homers for the first time this season.

What to watch: Game 2 continues with New York one win from the next round.
