What happened: The New York Yankees acquired Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals after considering an outfield addition. Garcia is hitting .283/.313/.560 with 23 home runs this season.

Why it matters: Adding a proven impact bat reduces the need to block Spencer Jones from a meaningful outfield role. Trusting Jones preserves upside while Garcia supplies immediate production and remains under club control through 2027.
