What happened: Gavin McKenna is turning his attention to his next opportunity on the ice as he addresses his benching against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, per Luke Fox of Sportsnet.

Why it matters: Early-season benchings test how a young player handles coaching accountability and adjusts to NHL regular-season demands.

What to watch: McKenna's deployment in his next appearance will indicate whether he returns to a regular shift rotation.
