What happened: Former Indians second baseman Baerga compared Williams to Roger Clemens. Williams addressed the comparison while discussing his postseason start against a Rays lineup built on contact.

Why it matters: The comparison connects Williams to one of the era's defining power pitchers. It follows a breakout October that included a 12-strikeout Game 5 and a 200-strikeout regular season.

By the numbers: 12 strikeouts in ALDS Game 5, tying Guardians record; 200 strikeouts in 2026 regular season; 3.0 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 6 K in scoreless postseason outing.

What to watch: Cleveland's rotation order will show where Williams slots next after the division series.
