What happened: New York Giants quarterback J.J. McCarthy exited Sunday's game after absorbing a heavy hit in the backfield. McCarthy was evaluated in the blue medical tent before walking back to the locker room in visible discomfort.

Why it matters: McCarthy was named the Giants starting quarterback in late October to stabilize the offense. Any extended absence disrupts New York's offensive continuity following recent midseason changes under center.

What to watch: The Giants are expected to provide an update on McCarthy's status following postgame evaluations.
