What happened: The Memphis Grizzlies have traded guard Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers, ending his seven-season run with the franchise. In announcing the move, Memphis thanked Morant and ran through the accolades he piled up over his years with the team.

Why it matters: Morant had been the centerpiece of Memphis's young core, so moving him marks a major directional shift for the franchise. For Portland, landing an explosive lead guard reshapes its backcourt and accelerates its timeline heading into the 2026-27 season.

What to watch: Watch for the full terms of the deal, Portland's reshaped rotation, and any follow-on moves from Memphis as both teams set their 2026-27 rosters.
