What happened: Saturday's opener puts Cleveland back on the postseason stage for a third straight year. Chicago advanced out of the wild-card round to set the matchup at Progressive Field.

Why it matters: Game 1 carries immediate leverage in a short series, shaping pitching usage and the early series edge. Cleveland arrives after clinching a third straight postseason berth, and this is its first chance to turn that run into another October push.

What to watch: The next turn is the official lineup card and any late roster decisions before first pitch. The opener will decide which side carries the first series lead into the rest of the weekend.
