What happened: Hunter Goodman hit his 31st home run of the season, giving the Colorado Rockies the lead in the eighth inning. The blast put Colorado ahead in the late stages of the contest.
Why it matters: The power surge highlights a breakout campaign for Goodman, who earned his second straight All-Star selection earlier this month. As Colorado evaluates its roster ahead of the August 3 trade deadline, the catcher's consistent production remains a focal point.
By the numbers: Colorado entered the game with a 36-57 record. The series between the Washington Nationals and the Colorado Rockies is tied 1-1.
What to watch: The Rockies will look to maintain their late advantage through the remainder of the game.
