What happened: Pierre LeBrun reported Carolina has offered a package built around Alexander Nikishin and a first-round pick for Connor Hellebuyck, with Brandon Bussi also part of the discussion. Winnipeg is weighing the proposal as Kevin Cheveldayoff says he is focused on getting the return right rather than rushing a deal. Hellebuyck asked for a trade in April and remains under contract for five more years.

Why it matters: The framework gives Carolina a path to add a Vezina-winning starter before the 2025-26 season while giving Winnipeg a chance to turn a camp standoff into multiple assets. Nikishin's value is complicated by his own contract dispute after requesting a trade from Carolina, and Winnipeg's need for more top-six scoring after losing Nikolaj Ehlers could shape whether this package is enough. Hellebuyck's full no-move clause through 2031 also means any trade would still require his approval.

What to watch: Watch whether Carolina keeps Bussi in the framework and whether Winnipeg pushes for more forward help in any final structure. Cheveldayoff's next public comments should clarify whether the Jets are narrowing the market or staying patient into camp.
