What happened: Jack St. Ivany praised defensive partner Cole Hutson's playmaking ability, outlining his own responsibility to serve as a defensive safety valve. St. Ivany highlighted Hutson's skating and puck-handling strengths, emphasizing a simplified approach to feed the puck to his partner.

Why it matters: The pairing balances Hutson's offensive instincts with St. Ivany's stabilizing presence on the blue line. Washington previously claimed Jack St. Ivany off waivers to reinforce defensive depth, and establishing defined roles helps solidify the unit.

What to watch: The Capitals host the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, Nov. 1, with puck drop scheduled for 3:30 PM ET.
