What happened: The Atlanta Hawks ruled out five players ahead of Friday's game against Washington. Jalen Johnson will miss the contest due to a left ankle sprain, while Keshon Gilbert is sidelined by left knee inflammation. Mouhamed Gueye, Jock Landale, and Asa Newell were also designated out with lower-body injuries.

Why it matters: Johnson has served as a primary playmaker and rebounder for Atlanta, making his absence a significant void in the starting unit. The simultaneous injuries to Landale, Gueye, and Newell sharply diminish frontcourt depth. Atlanta stands at 5-4 through nine games in 2026-27 as the team tests its reserve rotation.

What to watch: Atlanta faces Washington on Friday night looking to extend a two-game winning streak. The Hawks will monitor Johnson's status ahead of their upcoming schedule.
