What happened: Jalon Daniels earns the initial starting assignment among all first-year signal-callers. The undrafted passer takes the field ahead of the 10 quarterbacks selected in the 2026 draft.

Why it matters: He takes over the offense in place of Baker Mayfield, who is expected to miss three to six weeks with a dislocated thumb. The move puts Daniels under center while top selections, including first overall pick Fernando Mendoza, remain backups.

What to watch: Monitor Mayfield's recovery timeline, as his ability to grip the football will dictate the duration of the starting stint.
