$3.5 million pact follows a full season out of the NBA

In case there was any confusion about Ben Simmons' role... the Sacramento Kings followed Simmons tradition and announced Via @LawMurrayTheNU on X

What happened: Sacramento officially completed the one-year signing Tuesday. Simmons is in line to back up Darius Acuff Jr. if the rookie starts at point guard.

Why it matters: The role would preserve first-unit reps for Acuff while placing an experienced ballhandler behind him. Sacramento could also use Simmons alongside Acuff rather than treating the two as an either-or choice.

By the numbers: Simmons is listed at 6-foot-10; Acuff was the No.

What to watch: Training camp will show whether Acuff opens as the starter and how often Simmons shares the floor with him.
