Ben Simmons agrees to one-year, $3.5 million Kings deal

The 30-year-old sat out the entire 2025-26 season.

What happened: Simmons is expected to back up rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr. He worked out for Sacramento in August before visiting coach Doug Christie and his staff.

Why it matters: The contract gives the Kings a veteran ball handler without a commitment beyond 2026-27. It also offers Simmons a return route after back injuries disrupted his tenure with Brooklyn.

By the numbers: Simmons has averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.5 steals across 383 career games. He averaged 5.0 points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 51 games during 2024-25 before missing all of 2025-26.

What to watch: Training camp will clarify how Christie divides ball-handling duties between Simmons and Acuff.
