What happened: Dylan Larkin will not approve a trade to the Buffalo Sabres as discussions around the Detroit captain continue, according to a Yahoo Sports report. Larkin remains away from game action and will not dress until a deal is completed.

Why it matters: Buffalo had explored an acquisition after approaching the Red Wings on Larkin in late October. Eliminating the Sabres narrows the field of suitors holding the young center assets Detroit covets in return. The impasse leaves Detroit navigating trade discussions while holding out its top forward.

What to watch: Detroit is expected to issue a formal update on Larkin as trade lists continue to evolve over the next 48 hours.
