What happened: The Buffalo Sabres loaned defenseman Dennis Gilbert to the Rochester Americans on Sunday. Gilbert heads back to the AHL after serving as a depth option on Buffalo's blue line.

Why it matters: Gilbert was previously recalled from Rochester on Oct. 13 to provide defensive coverage during the opening month of the season. The transaction opens an active roster spot for Buffalo following the conclusion of their four-game road trip.

What to watch: Rochester continues AHL regular-season play with Gilbert eligible to rejoin the lineup immediately.
