What happened: The inaugural LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational will be staged at Firestone Country Club. His foundation announced the partnership Tuesday.

Why it matters: Firestone was set to lose the Senior Players Championship when the event moves to California in 2027. The invitational preserves a PGA Tour presence at the Akron venue.

By the numbers: Firestone's 2026 PGA Tour Champions event carried a $3.5 million purse on a par-70, 7,248-yard course.

What to watch: The 2027 date, field and format will determine how the invitational fits into the PGA Tour calendar.
