What happened: Detroit announced the pair of defensive line moves Tuesday. The same Aidan Keanaaina placed on injured reserve in August rejoins the organization, while Chris Smith departs in his first NFL season out of Notre Dame.

Why it matters: Practice-squad tackles supply scout-team reps and game-day elevation depth. Retaining a lineman already familiar with Detroit's system preserves continuity for the interior rotation.

What to watch: Detroit's upcoming game-day elevations will show where Keanaaina slots in the tackle rotation.
