What happened: Luis Garcia Jr. hit .526 with six home runs over the past week to earn National League Player of the Week honors. The Washington Nationals infielder went 10-for-19 across the stretch, pairing elite contact with rare power output. He attributed the surge to mechanical adjustments, including a focus on staying "under the ball."

Why it matters: The breakout gives Washington a middle-of-the-order spark as the club sits at .500 and looks to climb in the standings. It is the second straight week a Garcia has drawn league recognition, after he shared Player of the Week billing alongside Junior Caminero. Sustained production from him reshapes how opposing staffs have to navigate the Nationals lineup.

What to watch: Watch whether Garcia carries the adjusted approach into the next series and whether the power output holds against a fuller sample.
