What happened: Marco Reus was named September Player of the Month on Thursday. The award follows a September stretch that included a penalty goal and a league Team of the Matchday honor.

Why it matters: The nod keeps Reus in focus with the MLS regular season moving into October. It also caps a month in which he turned a second-half entry into a scoring contribution and then picked up league recognition.

By the numbers: By the numbers: one penalty goal on Sept. 19, one MLS Team of the Matchday selection on Sept. 21, and another second-half appearance on Sept. 27.

What to watch: October matches will show whether that September form carries into the final regular-season push. Another scoring contribution would keep the momentum moving the same way.
