GENERATIONAL GOAL SCORER 🤩 Auston Matthews has the most goals through a player’s first 700 NHL games 🍁 https://t.co/JCy Via @Sportsnet on X

What happened: Matthews hit the 700-game checkpoint on Tuesday's 11-game slate. The night left him alone with the most goals through that span.

Why it matters: It puts Toronto's captain clear of the modern goals standard at the same career checkpoint. It sets an early historic baseline for the 2026-27 regular season with most of the schedule still to play.

What to watch: Toronto plays on in the regular season with his career total now the number to extend.
