What happened: Gavin McKenna was on the ice early for the Toronto Maple Leafs after taking criticism earlier in the week for missing an optional skate. He also stayed out as practice wound down and worked on his shot with associate coach Daniel.

Why it matters: The extra work keeps the spotlight on McKenna's early Maple Leafs acclimation as Toronto moves through preseason. It also gives the club a visible response point after a minor camp storyline followed him into the week.

What to watch: McKenna's next practice workload will be worth watching as camp continues. Any repeat late-session work with Daniel would keep this storyline alive into Toronto's next scheduled game.
