What happened: Mercedes will run a special livery for the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend in Malaysia. The team is also bringing seven upgrades to Sepang as Formula 1 opens its first Malaysia stop since 2017.

Why it matters: The package arrives a week after George Russell won in Baku, giving Mercedes a chance to press its recent momentum. It also adds to Mercedes' new floor and sidepods package for a round that could shape the middle leg of this triple-header.

By the numbers: Seven upgrades is the largest package count cited around the Bahrain GP weekend; Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren were each noted with one. Sepang is hosting round 16 of the 2026 season and Formula 1's first race in Malaysia since 2017.

What to watch: Practice and qualifying will show whether the updated W17 keeps the pace edge Mercedes carried into Malaysia. Sunday's race is the first full test of the new package over distance.
