What happened: The Phoenix Mercury signed guard Shay Ciezki to a rest-of-season contract and guard Saylor Poffenbarger to a developmental contract. The move came after Ciezki posted 22 points, three assists and two rebounds in Phoenix's 94-91 final over Portland.

Why it matters: The deal locks in Ciezki after a scoring burst that helped finish off Friday's win. It also reverses Phoenix's earlier decision after releasing Ciezki in June, while adding Poffenbarger on a developmental contract.

By the numbers: Ciezki finished with 22 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Emily Engstler added 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, and Holly Winterburn had 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in the 94-91 final.

What to watch: Phoenix is back in action Saturday against Dallas. The next roster card will show how quickly Ciezki and Poffenbarger are folded into the rotation.
