Mets bullpen has one lock for 2027 and open questions behind him

Senga's role, a closer and Garrett's return all unsettled

What happened: Devin Williams is the only reliever certain to open 2027 in the Mets' bullpen. Daniel Duarte and Austin Warren, both out of minor league options, are likely members, and left-hander Nate Lavender, who excelled down the stretch in his first major league season, looks close to a lock.

Why it matters: The 2026 bullpen finished with a 3.76 ERA, 10th in MLB and just behind the Dodgers' 3.74, even after four late-inning arms were traded at the deadline. Kodai Senga adjusted well to late-inning relief, but his preference is to start, and his health over a full season of short-relief work is a question.

By the numbers: Dedniel Nunez posted a 3.32 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 19 innings after returning from Tommy John surgery. Cionel Perez, arbitration-eligible and out of options, had a 3.99 ERA in 29.1 innings over 24 appearances for the Mets. He carries a 5.30 ERA over the last three seasons.

What to watch: Reed Garrett, recovering from Tommy John surgery, has not pitched in the majors since September 2025. Tobias Myers is a candidate for long relief.
