He was already managing a hip issue this week.

What happened: The decision on Evans' availability will wait until closer to kickoff instead of being settled with the final injury report. He had already been carrying a questionable designation with a hip issue before the rib problem entered the picture.

Why it matters: The update matters for a 49ers receiving corps already thinned after Demarcus Robinson suffered a high ankle sprain last month. If Evans cannot go, San Francisco would lose another active option on game day and be forced to lean harder on its remaining receivers.

By the numbers: Evans was officially listed questionable as of Sept. 29 because of a hip injury. Shanahan's latest update added a rib issue and pushed the decision to game day.

What to watch: Pregame warmups and the inactive list will determine whether Evans is available Sunday. Any further team update will show whether the rib issue affects only his status or also his workload.
