The news

The Milwaukee Brewers have swept the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 to reach the World Series, per @espn, @SportsCenter and @Sportsnet. Milwaukee closed out the NLCS with a 6-4 win in Game 4 to complete the sweep and advance to the Fall Classic. With the Game 4 defeat, the Dodgers have been swept by the Brewers and are officially eliminated from the 2026 MLB postseason.

The 6-4 final in Game 4 sealed the 4-0 series result in favor of Milwaukee and brought an immediate end to the postseason run for Los Angeles. By taking the series 4-0 and securing the 6-4 decision in Game 4, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed the National League pennant and punched their ticket to the World Series. While Milwaukee moves on to the Fall Classic, Los Angeles now enters the offseason following the NLCS exit.

Prior context

The victory in the NLCS sends the Milwaukee Brewers to the World Series for the first time in 44 years. Snapping a 44-year World Series drought marks a historic turn for Milwaukee as the club finally ends its 44-year wait for a Fall Classic berth. Entering Game 4 of the NLCS, Milwaukee stood on the brink of ending that 44-year wait, and the 6-4 triumph finished the 4-0 series sweep over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 2026 MLB postseason came to a close against a Milwaukee club that controlled the NLCS from start to finish in a 4-0 series. Los Angeles arrived with the reputation of a great team, yet the 4-0 sweep in the NLCS underscored how the landscape in the National League shifted during the 2026 postseason. Because the Dodgers are eliminated from the 2026 postseason, the exit for Los Angeles guarantees a new champion in 2026.

What it means

Eliminating the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 4-0 NLCS sweep reshapes the 2026 MLB postseason picture and ensures that a new World Series champion will be crowned in 2026. The Dodgers are a great team, but not the best team in baseball anymore, or even the best in the National League after being swept 4-0 by the Milwaukee Brewers. That distinction in the National League now belongs to Milwaukee following the 6-4 win in Game 4 that closed out the NLCS.

For the Milwaukee Brewers, ending a 44-year World Series drought validates their run through the National League, yet the focus inside the clubhouse remains on the work still ahead in the Fall Classic. As noted in the aftermath of the clincher, "You got to enjoy tonight, but understand that the job's not finished and we got more in front of us." Even with a 44-year wait for a Fall Classic berth finally over after the 4-0 sweep, Milwaukee recognizes that reaching the World Series is not the final objective of the 2026 MLB postseason.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 6-4 loss in Game 4 and the 4-0 series sweep bring a sudden halt to their campaign and send Los Angeles into the offseason. Being swept by the Brewers removes Los Angeles from contention in the 2026 postseason and leaves the franchise to regroup after falling short in the NLCS. The 4-0 result leaves no doubt about the outcome of the series as Milwaukee moves forward and Los Angeles turns its attention to the offseason.

What to watch next

With the NLCS decided 4-0 after the 6-4 win in Game 4, the Milwaukee Brewers now await their World Series opponent. The upcoming Fall Classic will determine the new champion in 2026 now that the Milwaukee Brewers have claimed the National League crown.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers enter the offseason after the NLCS exit and their 4-0 series defeat against Milwaukee. With Los Angeles eliminated from the 2026 MLB postseason, the Dodgers face an offseason of evaluation while the Brewers carry the National League banner into the World Series.
