What happened: Álvaro Morata has admitted that his 2024 decision to leave Atlético Madrid remains the 'biggest mistake' of his professional career. Speaking with former teammate Mario Suárez, the forward expressed profound regret, stating he would trade all his career titles for a single trophy with the club.

Why it matters: The admission follows a period of reflection for Morata, who left the Metropolitano amid mental health struggles following a 2024 Champions League exit. Atlético has since moved into a new era, finishing 4th in La Liga this season behind the scoring of Alexander Sørloth and Julián Álvarez.

What to watch: The club looks toward the 2026/27 season aiming to challenge for domestic silverware after a Copa del Rey runner-up finish and a successful Champions League qualification.
