What happened: Dallas slotted rookie big man Morez Johnson Jr. into its preseason "The Blueprint" series three days before the regular season tips off. Selected out of Michigan in June, Johnson put in extra post-practice shooting work alongside guard Marcus Sasser as the roster finalized preparations.

Why it matters: Spending a top-10 lottery selection on the former Wolverines standout adds physical interior defense and frontcourt versatility on a rookie-scale contract. His progression through Summer League and training camp alongside Dusty May positions him to compete for immediate reserve minutes.

What to watch: Dallas tips off the 2026-27 regular season on Wednesday in Houston, marking Johnson's first opportunity for official NBA action.
