What happened: The Washington Nationals have extended outfielder Jacob Young, Jon Heyman reports, with Robert Murray of Fansided credited as first to report it.

Why it matters: The extension follows weeks of Yankees trade interest in Young. Heyman describes him as a great defensive center fielder and says New York has always liked that profile, which matters as the Yankees look for lineup help ahead of 2027.

What to watch: Contract figures and the club's official announcement are the next items to watch, along with how Washington builds its 2027 outfield around Young.
