Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Jul 261 min read

What happened: The Boston Red Sox receive an infielder in Mead. Early made his MLB debut last season and started a playoff game for Boston.

Why it matters: Washington converts infield depth into pitching help, while Boston adds a bat to its lineup. Paul Toboni completes another transaction with his former club.

By the numbers: Arizona and Washington are 0-0 before their scheduled game, with the series tied 1-1.

What to watch: Early's first appearance for Washington and Mead's Boston debut are next to watch.
