What happened: Fabrizio Romano reports that the agreement between Manuel Neuer and FC Bayern over a new contract has been at its final stages for the past 10 days. Per BILD, lawyers on both sides need to give final approval before Neuer meets directors to sign. The new deal runs until June 2027.

Why it matters: Neuer's extension secures Bayern's leadership spine for another season as the club resets after a Champions League exit. Keeping a captain and long-time No. 1 in place provides continuity in goal and in the dressing room while the rebuild around him continues. It also defers a succession question Bayern would otherwise have to answer this summer.

What to watch: Watch for the official announcement date, which sources indicate could come this week. The signing ceremony with directors will follow once legal sign-off is complete.
