What happened: A former NFL star publicly condemned Stephen A. Smith over recent remarks about mental health. The criticism called the comments despicable and reckless and questioned why Smith has not been suspended.

Why it matters: The exchange centers on standards for discussing mental health on national sports platforms. Unequal discipline for players and commentators remains a persistent point of contention.

What to watch: Smith's next on-air comments will show whether he responds to the challenge.
