What happened: League officials cited Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 after alleging the seventh-year defensive back spit following a Las Vegas extra point with 1:32 remaining in the fourth quarter of Buffalo's 33-30 Week 6 victory. Representatives Harold C. Lewis and Christian Addison told Tom Pelissero that Franklin flatly denies spitting at anyone and expects full exoneration upon review.

Why it matters: Buffalo's secondary already lost safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to a separate one-game suspension for spitting at Las Vegas tight end Brock Bowers during the first half of the same contest. Head coach Joe Brady stated earlier this week that the franchise would not impose internal penalties beyond the league's discipline.

What to watch: Jointly appointed NFL-NFLPA hearing officers Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera, or James Thrash will hear the appeal. With Buffalo on its Week 7 bye, an upheld suspension would keep Franklin out of the Week 8 home game against the Baltimore Ravens.
