What happened: The NFL and NFL Players Association agreed to an automatic one-game suspension when a player violates the same covered rule three times. The formula

Why it matters: Preseason fines assessed to Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, Shaka Heyward, Jake Briningstool, Darryl Peterson III and David Walker reset before games count. Each enters the season three violations of any one covered rule away from a suspension.

By the numbers: Taylor-Demerson was fined $7,148, Heyward $5,972, Briningstool $4,972, Peterson $4,935 and Walker $6,254. A player could violate each covered rule twice without suspension; the third violation of the same rule triggers the ban.

What to watch: Regular-season enforcement will determine how quickly repeat violations accumulate under the new formula.
