What happened: Dave Roberts described Shohei Ohtani as day-to-day because of right biceps and left knee pain. Roberts called an injured-list stint unlikely but possible.

Why it matters: The ailments are affecting Ohtani's hitting and have delayed his return to the mound. Brandon Gomes said the club prefers to keep Ohtani available instead of placing him on the injured list.

What to watch: The Dodgers will reassess Ohtani's availability after the scheduled game against Washington. Tommy Edman will lead off and play center field.
