Only seven games played as a Sabre and Olen Zellweger is “really what we envisioned that we thought he could be.” More Via @BuffaloSabres on X

What happened: Buffalo's coaching staff praised Olen Zellweger in Saturday's practice report, noting the defenseman has delivered what the club envisioned through his first seven appearances as a Sabre. Zellweger recently recorded his first two goals with the club in a 61-second span to tie a game that Buffalo ultimately won in overtime.

Why it matters: The rapid integration validates Buffalo's offseason move after the defenseman was acquired in July alongside Louis Crevier and Conor Sheary. Zellweger missed time following a Sept. 23 preseason injury before returning to full practice on Oct. 3, making his immediate offensive contribution a boost for the blue line.

By the numbers: Zellweger has logged seven games as a Sabre and scored two goals within 61 seconds after returning from a Sept. 23 preseason injury.

What to watch: Zellweger and Buffalo return to home ice next Wednesday as the 2026-27 regular season continues.
